Senate Democratic Leader Wants New Guest Worker Program Despite Recession and High Unemployment Rate
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) says he wants to enact a new guest worker program as part of a comprehensive immigration reform bill that he is vowing to take up in Congress.
Reid announced his intention to enact a new guest worker program last week despite the fact that the economy is in a deep recession and the national unemployment rate has reached 9.4%, a level that has not been seen since 1983 and that is rare in the post-World War II era.

Cap and trade: It's an economic catastrophe
When it comes to environmental policy, politicians will rely on your good intentions on the issue and not much else. With cap-and-trade, however, the economic tradeoffs are so damaging, the environmental benefits so negligible and the plan such a clutter, that selling it — even to Democrats — is turning out to be difficult.

White House puts off immigration meeting again
The White House has postponed, for the second time this month, a meeting with members of Congress on the administration’s plan to take up the illegal immigration issue.
The White House had planned the meeting for June 8 originally and rescheduled it for June 17. It is being rescheduled for next week, according to a White House official.
